Gil made the headlines in the past few years
It was last February when Gil made a debut with her shaved head. This shaved head debut was made on the magazine cover. It marked for her as ‘rebirth’.
In one of the interviews held with Cherie, she revealed to Mega that she is to make sure about her spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being. She even said this is all now getting the top-most priority.
“I was getting tired of myself. And I was just so angry and unhappy, so I sold everything and packed up,” Cherie said.
She added, “I got rid of all the clothes I had that symbolized a past life… I’m completely finding myself and coming to terms with who I really am. It’s just great to have this opportunity and to be alive to start over. It’s like a rebirth of sorts.”
She further revealed about the counseling and therapy sessions that she was going with.
Evangeline Rose Gil Eigenmann, or Cherie, she was of Philippine cinema history, one of the best actresses. She made an early start in show business, considering the fact that she belonged to a family of actors. The Eigenmann family was quite famous.
Cherie’s biggest break was made through ‘Manila By Night’, an Ishmael Bernal Classic of 1980. She also got famous with the masterpiece ‘Oro, Plata, Mata’, a 1982 movie by Peque Gallaga.
Cherie was quite known for Lavinia Arguelles. It was in this movie that she said one of the most iconic lines of Philippine cinema in Bituing Walang Ningning. The line was, “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!”
In her 50 years of an acting career, Cherie won awards. She received the best actress award at Madrid International Festival, 2015, for her role in ‘Mana.’ She was also awarded at PMPC Star Awards, 2019, with Movie Supporting Actress of the Year for her role in ‘Citizen Jake’.
Cherie, for her, what she achieved, was definitely one of the iconic personalities, just like Maria Callas and Diana Vreeland.
